All Praise is due to Allah (swt) and we send our salutations to our Holy Prophet (saw) and his immaculate family (as).
On the 6th of June, under the bright, beautiful sky, following the birth of our beloved Imam Mahdi(atj), the Al Mahdi Islamic Centre held a historical land event on the future site of the new Al Mahdi Islamic Community Centre on 3270 Markham Road. The event was organized to raise awareness of the forthcoming building construction of another multi-functional and holistic Islamic Community Centre serving East Toronto and its vicinity. This would act as another beacon of light in the evolving and demanding needs for multi-purpose Islamic Centres in the rapidly growing Greater Toronto Area.
The historic land event exhibited the spirit and unity of the GTA community and the pledge of allegiance as all members were in attendance to support this noble cause. With all 650 seats occupied and nearly 150 guest standing, the event was a success – Alhamdolillah. With humourous skits by our MCs, powerful spoken word poetry and inspiring messages from our leaders, the bright future of the Al Mahdi community was evident on that day. The overflowing crowd was introduced to the Al Mahdi Executive Committee, Project Technical Committee and Fundraising Committee working on the centre project.
We were honoured to be blessed with Sr. Nicole Correri as one of our keynote speakers. Her inspiring message of community building and the importance of women was appreciated and welcomed by all. Our resident Alim, Moulana Syed Zaki Baqri closed the event with a clear message of progress and a call to action while expressing his gratitude to those who were present.
Alhamdolillah, with the Grace of Allah (swt), we were able to raise $649,000 through the generous pledges of community members. There were also some blessed donations from the auctioning of the Flag from the Shrine of Imam Hussain (as) and the tiles that were also from under the Zarih of Imam Hussain (as) in Kerbala. Silent Auctions of various paintings and items were also held, giving our respected guests ample opportunity to take part in this spiritual mission.
We are thankful to all the members of the GTA community for attending and supporting this event. This will be a collective movement and will require the collective efforts and prayers of everyone to reach our goal.
The mission forges ahead!
