As we continue on our journey to complete our dream and move into the new Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre on 3270 Markham Road, we wish to take this opportunity to look back at a very successful and productive 2013. Alhamdolillah, it was a year that displayed the true passion and vigor of our community. We took concrete and meaningful steps on our path and in the process presented our goal and vision to the broader GTA community who welcomed the project with open arms.
To recap, on June 12th, 2013 during the celebration of the Wiladat ofImam Hussain Ibn Ali (as), details of the new Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre were presented during a program called the “The Unveiling”. During the program a historical look at the establishment of the Al-Mahdi Islamic Community Centre along with details of the envisioned centre were presented.
Next, on September 21st, 2013, MashaAllah, we held a historic event which outlined the project mission for the future development plans of the envisioned Al Mahdi Islamic Community Centre. With a sold out event, the “Al Mahdi Initiative” embodied the true spirit of celebration and unity as community members from all over the GTA were in attendance to support this noble cause. The enthusiasm and support demonstrated by the attendees were beyond expectations.
The two events, i.e. “The Unveiling” and “Al Mahdi Initiative”, along with other private donations and financial support raised $1.5 million in form pledges towards Phase I of the project, of which $750,000 is already collected. The financial target to commence construction work on Phase I of the centre is $3.0 million. Insha’Allah we have a realistic timeline to reach this goal in 2015 with your support.
Under the guidance of the Imam of our time (atf), we continue on this path in 2014. We are hoping to launch a new series of bold focused campaigns with a view to reaching our financial target of $3.0 million.
Insha’Allah, we request that you mark March 14th on your calendar as we will be presenting an update and providing information on the progress of the project to the community during the Shahadat majlis of Janab Zahra (as) at the Al-Mahdi Islamic Centre, in Pickering.
On behalf of both the Executive and Fund Raising Committee, we wish to extend a heart-felt thank you for your generous commitment to the Al-Mahdi Islamic Centre project and request that Imam Zamana (atf) assist us in reaching our goal and fulfilling our duty during his occultation.
